When buying weapons, choose carefully. The shop keeper will try to push certain weapons that are usually more expensive. Buy according to your specialty.
Archers: Do not buy Gold/Silver/magic arrows until you absolutely need them. Stick to ordinary arrows and a bow.
Swordsman: It may seem wierd, but go to a Blacksmith, not a Swordsmith. Blacksmiths are a jack of all trades and can make anything. Swordsmiths specialize only in swords and charge more to make up for lack of business transactions. Besides, they tend to ignore other projects to tend to the noblemen first.
Spear/long ranged weapons users: You're better off learning how to care for your weapons yourself. If you buy,sharpen, and assemble the blades yourself, it will save you frustration and money.
